About us

May every child have the company of a CTSS volunteer's letters.

Who we are

CTSS began in 2014 as a project to care for the hearts of left-behind and migrant children. In January 2022 it was registered as the Hangzhou Shangcheng District Changtui Mailbox Charity Development Center.

Through long-term letter writing, we keep company with children aged 6 to 15 who need it: left-behind children in the countryside, migrant children in the cities, and children in hardship. We help ease the hurt that builds up when no one is there for them, encourage them to use their strengths, nurture positive feelings, and help them find meaning and purpose. We help them understand themselves, other people and the world, build healthy relationships, and grow up whole.

A letter from our founder

“They are only waiting for an answer.”

The children who write to us are mostly in primary school. The youngest can barely write yet, so many of their “letters” don't look like letters at all: just their name, a “hello”, a drawing, or a page torn from a homework book.

Where we work

94 schools, across China.

Our partner schools are in the countryside, where many children are raised by grandparents while their parents work in the cities. In many of them there is no art class at all.
